September 23 The Next DaySeptember 17 Ooooooo, Shiny!I think I have owned my piano for a couple of years now, and never took the time to "fix it up". It is an old one that I am in love with since it is the same kind my piano teacher owned--very nostalgic for me. A friend of mine, who recently acquired an older piano, gave me a tip on a wood restoration product that works great. It did just that for my old piano. I love before and after pictures, but didn't remember to take any until I was already at least halfway finished with the project. At least I have some, and the piano looks great! Now all I need to do is get my floors finished and then I can get it tuned. It doesn't sound too bad and luckily, I grew up playing the most out of tune piano in the world (no offense mom and dad).
A miracle happened today. I went to get Roxie out of her crib this morning and her hair was laying flat! Yes, flat! I think she had been sleeping against the side of her crib. It hasn't even sprung back up today. Maybe I will make her sleep with some kind of hat on to make her hair lay down. Also, her second tooth has popped through today.
We were driving the other day and Alice yells, "Mom, look! There's a conifer!" Huh? I don't think I knew what a conifer was until 6th grade or something. Come to find out, she picked it up from the They Might Be Giants CD/DVD (Here come the ABCs: C is for Conifer). We have two of their kid CD/DVDs and Alice loves them--and I don't mind them either. September 16 Camping and CasinosJake took Alice camping this past weekend. They headed to his old stomping ground, Birch Bay. They packed everything into the car and ventured out Friday afternoon. Jake insisted on taking the large tent, even though it was just the two of them. I guess someone has to break it in. I was glad to be at home since camping with a sick baby didn't sound all that appealing to me. Alice and Jake had a great time. They roasted hot-dogs and marshmallows, ate popcorn, and made pancakes, eggs, and sausage for breakfast. On Saturday they spent most of their time walking on the tide flats. They found tons of shells and sand dollars--plus, Alice found a small starfish. They drove up to the Peace Arch at the border and walked around a little. They were pretty beat when they got home. I think this is the beginning of a wonderful tradition. Jake needs to do some "Daddy-Daughter" trips. As were were discussing this, we told Alice that when she and Roxie get older they can go on different outdoor adventures. She piped up and said, "Ya! And I can go to the #1 Place for Fun when I get older too!"
Tulalip Casino: you are doing a heck of a job advertising. Whenever your commercials come on tv, our daughter dances around the house. I just watched that commercial on youtube and can't stop giggling! I guess I never really paid attention to it or maybe I am just really tired... September 10 September Already?Alice started preschool this week and the first day was a killer. We are watching Will this week while my parents try to finish their house. With one extra kid, it shouldn't make too much of a difference, right? That's what I thought--and usually it's not a problem. But for some reason, Tuesday was a terrible day for me. Roxie woke up with a nasty cold, Will had an accident in his pants (think worst possible scenario), and the kids were at each other's throats all day. No matter what they did, they could NOT get along. This all put me in a bad mood. My mom came over the stay with the other kids while I dropped Alice off at school. We ended up being 15 minutes late the first day. We didn't even get to take the "first day of school" picture until she got home later that afternoon. Ahhhh! Today the kids were a little better at not fighting, which gives me a little hope for the rest of the week.
In addition to Roxie's cold, she drooled literally buckets (ok, maybe not buckets) yesterday. Today, I discovered that her first tooth has finally popped through her bottom gums. Hurray! Only a mouthful more to go...
Jake has been out at my parents' new house for 3 weeks straight trying to help them get things ready for occupancy. They moved out of their old house last week and are now homeless. I miss the old house a little bit. We had some fun memories there--but afterall, it is just a house. Memories last longer than houses. Although, lately my memory is not good. For the new home tour or if you'd like to help them clean, contact Jake. Maybe I will get some pictures to post. September 01 Recent AdventuresWe have had some fun recently that I haven't written about. A few weeks ago we attended the parade in Monroe to kick off the Evergreen State Fair. We went with Jackie and her crew, Ben and his kids, and Weldon and Donya met us there with their kids. It was on held on Main Street and the weather was beautiful! Next year we will get seating in the shade. Luckily we brought an umbrella for Roxie to sit under. I volunteered to hold her for the majority of the parade so I could enjoy the shade too. The kids had a great time collecting candy and flyers, and eating sno-cones and cotton candy.
Last Monday night we attended another Mariners game with the same bunch we went with before. We had a good time--however it was much colder! The roof was closed because of the rain and we had to bundle up. Alice enjoyed eating everyone else's food, getting her picture taken with the Moose, and singing in the 7th inning stretch. In the 10th inning, the Mariners pulled off a win. As bad as that team is, they have won both games that we attended this season. Odd...
This past week we went with Ben, Jack, and Piper to the Evergreen State Fair. We were only there a couple of hours, but that was just about right. We saw all the animals and various vendor booths (can you say Shamwow?). We made a stop at the Republican booth and got some stickers (don't hate us, Cathy). I forgot how yucky the animal pavilions smell. We got our fix of fair food (corndogs, fries, elephant ears, mini donuts, caramel apples), the kids hopped on a ride, and we called it a night.
Jake was invited by our good friends (the Cadds) to a Seahawks game on Friday night. He had a great time with them! I don't have any pictures, but Jake has been tagged in numerous photos on facebook that you can view. Cathy kept telling Josh and Jake that they looked gay. You can make that call.
Saturday we ventured out with the Cadds to the Woodland Park Zoo. We had a good time visiting with them and enjoying the animals. I had more fun watching people--some of them are crazier than the animals. I won't be specific (because that would take too long), but as we were waiting in line for tickets, I almost made a run for it. I'm glad we stuck around though because we enjoyed ourselves. Alice made fast friends with Isaac and Andrew and loved holding Bob's hand. We had some ice cream before we left and enjoyed the sun that decided to come out. They are in the middle of building this giant penguin exhibit that should be done next summer--it looks like it will be pretty amazing. |
